Introduction to Brushless Motor Parameters and Figures of Merit

This document clarifies dc motor parameter definitions. It contains derivations for both Y and Delta motor windings. It is supplemented by Attachment A, which summarizes key relationships between the back emf motor types (trapezoidal and sine wave) and the drives (square wave and sinusoidal).

Three (3) motors were examined to check the parameter calculations. They are shown in documents Motor 1 Example, Motor 2 Example and Motor 3 Example.
